The following step-by-step guide is applicable only for the Upgrade from VTiger 6.1 to VTiger 6.2.

Step 1: Backup the CRM Files and Database

Before performing an upgrade, ALWAYS backup your database and the file system first. It will ensure that you won’t lose anything in case the upgradation doesn’t go as expected.

Step 2: Get the Patch File for VTiger 6.2 Upgrade

After creating a reliable backup, you will need the upgrade patch files for VTiger 6.2. The patch is available at the official website of VTiger. You can also download the required files here.

Step 3: Pre-stage Before the VTiger 6.2 Upgrade

The next stage is to carefully place the downloaded patch in the VTiger directory. e.g. if your VTiger directory is “/var/www/vtigercrm/” you should put the downloaded patch in the same path i.e. “/var/www/vtigercrm/”. So the files will be in the right place soon after the extraction.

Now look for the file named as “vtiger6.zip” among the extracted files. You’ll have to change its permissions to “777”. It can be done through FTP/SSH client or the CPanel.

Step 4: Perform the Migration of VTiger 6.1 to 6.2

Now you are all set to begin the Migration process. The steps are explained below in a very simple way. Let’s do this:

1. In Chrome or Firefox browser, open the VTiger window (avoid using IE for the upgrade purpose)
2. Sign out of the VTiger (signing out is important)
3. Clear your browser’s Cache
4. Go to http://www.yourvtigercrm.com/migrate/.
5. This is the Migration page of VTiger CRM. Perform the following steps:
   1. Check “I have taken the backup of database”
   2. Check “I have taken the backup of source folder”
   3. Enter admin’s username, usually it’s ‘admin’, unless you disabled it.
   4. Enter the password
   5. Click “Start Migration” button.

The migration process is now underway. The process generally takes 5-10 minutes at most, but it depends upon the size of database. The loading bar will show you the progress but not the details of it.

After the upgradation is completed, a log of the process will be generated that opens up automatically.  Use it to make sure that all the executed actions were successful without any complication.

Press the “Next” button to move on to the summary page. It will confirm the successful completion of migration process from VTiger 6.1 to 6.2. Just click the “Finish” button to access the newer version of VTiger i.e. 6.2.
